Freshen Your Room Decor With Bedroom Dividers

Your bedroom décor is a statement about who you are. Large or small, your bedroom is the one room is generally the one room in the house that is a reflection of you and not your entire family. However, you and your spouse may have different opinions about what your bedroom décor should entail. Bedroom dividers can add a modern or a traditional touch to your room, and allow the two of you to express yourselves individually.

Bedroom dividers come in a number of different looks and styles. Contemporary pieces may be made from interesting materials such as metals or brightly colored plastic, whereas more traditional dividers may be made from wood, with screens, canvas, or plastic inserts. Folding and sliding dividers are available. The choice between the two may depend on whether you are seeking a decorative piece or a functional one that will actually give privacy to someone within the room.

Even dividers used for functional purposes will add a decorative flair. Screens or pictures inserted in the frames of the dividers can be chosen to offset the décor in the rest of the room. They may be paintings, photo frames, or colored fabrics.  If you are artistic, you may choose a divider with plain canvas that you can paint or decorate yourself. Most dividers are about five feet tall, but they can be bought to fit the room, and go all the way to the ceiling.

If your room is large, a bedroom divider may not be used for privacy, but to divide a sitting area from a sleeping area. With strategically placed furniture and lamps, this will allow one occupant to sleep while another reads, sews, or works on the computer. Even if the screens on the divider are translucent, the light will be softly diffused, allowing the sleeping occupant to rest undisturbed.

A decorative bedroom divider may not be used as a divider at all; it can be used as a headboard to provide an ornate focal point to the room. If you choose to do this, you will want to secure it to the wall so that it does not fall on the bed. A bedroom divider can be a particularly useful piece to add to a bedroom if you are renting and do not have the freedom to paint or wallpaper your walls. A divider chosen according to your tastes will add a great deal of flare and style to a room with plain white walls.

Bedroom dividers can be found at home furnishings and department stores, and online. A simple internet search will reveal many different resources where a shopper can find the piece that fits both his/her functional needs and decorative style. You may want to shop around a little so you can find the piece that best suits your personal style and fits your living space best. Be sure you know the measurements of your room and of the area you wish to fill before setting out to choose the right bedroom divider.

Roommates in dorms and apartments can create privacy and personal space with the use of bedroom room dividers. I wish I would have known this when I attended college 20 years ago.....
